India Honors Teachers on Teachers’ Day 2026 as 69 Educators Receive National Awards
India celebrated Teachers’ Day 2026 by honoring Dr. S. Radhakrishnan and recognizing 69 educators with National Teachers’ Awards. President Droupadi Murmu presented awards to school and higher education teachers.
President Droupadi Murmu presented National Teachers’ Awards to 48 school teachers from 27 states and seven Union Territories, along with 21 educators from higher education. The awardees were selected through a rigorous three-stage process.
Prime Minister Modi hosted the award winners at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, highlighting the contribution of educators to the country’s development. Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi also praised the teachers for their innovation during a special dinner.
The celebrations emphasized the central role of teachers in shaping the nation and building a developed India by 2047. The recognition of educators from school and higher education institutions marked Teachers’ Day as an occasion to acknowledge their contribution to India’s educational and national development.
